A challenge mode, like in PSO2 base and PSO1. We can expect a PvP mode, like in PSO2 base and PSO1. MMO development is best when the team starts taking risks with content types. The game in its current state is slow because they are going through its planned content. More UQ's and new types of event content after their planned content is expended. When the 4th region releases, we can expect a hot version of the harsh environment mechanic. Retem got the Trainia's which was expanded with Kvaris.

The Aelio region also has board trials, carried over from Kvaris. New mechanics added are usually locked to the region, for example with Kvaris' harsh environment and snowboarding. Many of the game modes present in PSO2 base have been carried over and improved, like tower defense for example. The additions have been quality of life or time-saving improvements to crafting and menuing.

Most things they've added aren't new systems that feature creeps the game like what happened to PSO2. After this Sega will be forced to make new content. Eventually, PSO2NGS' map will be "filled out" with the current map as it is with all 4 regions unlocked. Given the amount of money that PSO2NGS generates for Sega, both in the US and Japan it is very likely to remain active for the next decade, with constant updates. PSO2 base was much the same as PSO2NGS on release, with a small amount of content expanded upon in huge, practically seasonal updates. Even I'm not doing that here, because I too have fond memories of PSO2 base. Treating it as if PSO2 doesn't exist is the only way to give it a fair review. Comparing PSO2NGS to it is wholly unfair. "Veterans" of the game are just glad to see you playing and will go out of their way to help with whatever you are doing.Įxpectations- PSO2 base is a 12-year-old MMO with a diehard and vocal fanbase. Although toxic, because the game is PvE focused community members are generally helpful. If you play the base PSO2, you can keep all of your cosmetic items. If you're adventurous, you can even sell items you buy with the main in-game currency (N-Meseta) given you do so within a 3-day window with a ticket you can get once a month. There is very little you can't get by just playing the game enough. Microtransactions items can be bought from players should you have enough time on your hands. I've made wonderful friends in the global version, and PSO2 has been a much-appreciated social outlet for me since the start of the pandemic. The base game is still there, and it's still incredible, however it's been in maintenance mode since NGS release so there are no seasonal quests or mission pass there anymore which can make the process of building endgame gear quite difficult! All that said, base PSO2 remains one of my favorite action games of all time, and NGS keeps improving, however incrementally Jeff's take on New Genesis, PSO2's open world revamp, is pretty accurate: the game released prematurely last year, and there isn't a whole lot of content to keep you going once you've caught up so many players tend to dip in only for the larger updates released every six months. I've been playing on ship 2 of the global version since xbox beta, still at it.
